Grand Celebration of Navratri in India

Navratri is a 9 days major festival of India where we worship the nine forms of goddess Durga also called Navadurga. This festival continues for 10 nights and days("nav" means 9 "ratri" means night). Tenth day is called Dussehra. As the Hindu mythology this festival is celebrated for the triumph of good over evil. Goddess Durga killed the demon king Mahisasura to save people of this world and bring peace on this earth. From then this festival started celebrating. On the first day of navratri is known as Shailaputri Puja where we put a kalash or ghat which is known as Kalas Sthapana or Ghata sthapana or Kalas puja. Second day is worshiped as Bramhachari Puja or Preeti Dwitiya. Third day is worshiped as Chandrakanta or chandraghanta Pooja. On fourth day of navratri we do Kusumanda puja. Fifth day is celebrating by doingSkandamata pooja or Known as Lalita Panchami. Sixth day of navratri we do Katyayani pooja which is known as Mahasasthi. Seven day of navratri is worshiped as Kaalratri Puja which we celebrated as Mahasaptami. Eight day of Navratri is known as Maha Ashtami where Maha Gauri puja is happened. Ninth day of Navratri we do Siddhidatri puja which is known as Maha Navami. And at the last day we do Aparajitha puja or Shami puja which we celebrated as Bijaya Dasami or Dussehra. The nine names of Devi Durga are Mata Shailputri, Mata Brahmacharini, Mata Chandraghanta, Mata Kushmanda, Ma Skanda Mata, Mata Katyayani, Kaalratri, Mata Maha Gauri, Mata Siddhidatri.
The whole festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm. In Gujrat Garwa dance is a very famous dance held during this festival. All wear new dresses, shoes. During this festival bhajana, kirtana, (devotional songs) naam path all these are hold on. People go out to visit the idols of devi durga, eat foods, at many places fair are arranged where people enjoy with great joy and fun.
